I have always been a fan of the Boston and Maine railroad. While growing up in Chelmsford Massachusetts, I could hear the B&M trains at night passing through Westford and Graniteville. In the mid 1970's I began to railfan along the Stoney Brook branch between Ayer and North Chelmsford on my 10 speed bike. My pocket scanner received radio transmissions from Ayer and Lowell towers. I always knew what trains were coming or what I missed. Listening to the B&M radio chatter was very entertaining. In 1978, I got my first car and began to explore other parts of the B&M. The Connecticut River line was a favorite destination most weekends. A two hour drive to White River Junction or Bellows Falls, VT would often result in seeing trains from 3 or more different railroads all interchanging with the B&M at various points. Modeling the Conn. River was my plan until I went to North Conw
ay, New Hampshire for the first time in the early 80's. North Conway has a magnificent train station, roundhouse, working turntable and mountain scenery. Who could ask for anything more? An article in Model Railroader by George Drury inspired me to build this beautiful station.
The facilities at North Conway are very compact making it an ideal setting to model. Using an old interior door for my foundation, I constructed a diorama to display the station and my rolling stock. The door is hollow allowing me to cut out a pit for the turntable. More details will be added to the turntable soon. The photos were taken with a FujiFilm S3000 digital camera and enhanced with Adobe photoshop. Click on any photo to see a larger image.
